Hello all,

I understand your concerns. However, the excessive amount of beat theft has forced Shadowville to encourage the use of sound tags. It was either that or complete removal of free downloads, and I'm sure none of would like the latter. Of course, producers are instructed not to make constant loops of sound tags that will prevent any vocals on the beat entirely, so you can still use it. If you would like to remove sound tags completely, you will have to make a purchase. Some producers still have elected not to include sound tags yet, so enjoy it while you can.

On a side note, beat theft is not the same as digital piracy. It's not like downloading a song or movie for your own enjoyment without paying. Beat theft is when you download the beat and then (a) resell the beat as if it was your own or (b) sell records with a song using the beat without a license. In either case, you are profiting off the work of the producer without permission or compensation. There is a blatant difference between downloading a beat to listen to and downloading a beat to profit off of, just as much as bootlegging a DVD to resell. In the audio world, sound tags are the only way to protect against this unfortunately.

So if anyone's to blame for introduction of sound tags to Shadowville.com beats, blame it on the thieves and deadbeats who have caused this for you. Shadowville has encouraged and distributed completely tagless free beats to the world for over 4 years and have held out as long as possible, but the site has gotten so popular that it's time that we protected our own assets and interests.

I apologize to all the honest and hardworking artists that have followed our free beats policy and licensing terms.

Regards,

Slantize

yeah.. i completely understand. but consider the STRUGGLING artists who dont have the money to buy a license at the moment who need to try whatever they've written to your beats out on a live audience ( not for profit) before they commit what little money they do have to buying a license. at least make the tags a little less noticeable. the new producer sean divine has some fire beats.. really amazing…but the whole feel of the song is thrown off because the tag is just a little TOO dominant. but you guys are awesome

I knew this would happen sooner or later..  But shadowville has had a good run..  Ya'll have REALLY helped underground artists get great quality production and it was inevitable that this would happen from all the f****ts who jack SVP beats and sell em..

I say do what you gotta do Slant..  If ya'll want to put sound tags in your beats to keep people honest then thats what you gotta do..

He has considered the underground, struggling artist for the longest time man..  Too many people been taking advantage of Slant's good nature and now everybody is going to suffer from it..  I don't think the tags are even that bad the way they are doing it..  Just be thankful the tags aren't looped every few seconds making it completely impossible to make a track to the beat..
