The 23-year-old had previously earned around £50,000 a week.

Kane has only recently returned from a seven-week lay-off with an ankle injury but Tottenham are struggling for form, having won only once in their last 10 matches.

Pochettino feels Kane’s announcement will give the whole club a lift.

“It’s fantastic for the player. Always it’s important for them to be calm in their mind, focused on playing and improving every day.

“When they are involved in negotiations like these it always can affect, not him in his performance, but now the deal is done it’s important to focus on the future in training, to improve and try to score goals as he needs to do.”

Kane is the latest in a long line of Tottenham players to sign new contracts this year, following the likes of Dele Alli, Christian Eriksen and Eric Dier.

“Everyone knows how much I love this team and how I feel about this club and to sign another contract is a special feeling,” Kane told the official club website.

Spurs also want Lloris, whose contract expires in 2019, to agree fresh terms while Jan Vertonghen has held talks about his deal, which runs until 2018.

Pochettino suggested another announcement is near.

“Hugo is a very ambitious player but he is very happy here. Only I can tell you he is very happy and he wants success here and to stay here at Tottenham. That is his ambition.”

Tottenham face struggling Swansea on Saturday as they look to close the four-point gap that has opened up between them and fourth-placed Arsenal.

Pochettino had hoped Toby Alderweireld would make his long-awaited return from a knee injury but the defender is still not fully fit.

“Toby was involved during the week in training,” Pochettino said.

“We are very happy with his evolution but he has a small thing, we are not sure, we need to assess tomorrow (Friday) if he can be available.”

There is also a growing concern about Erik Lamela, who is out with a hip problem and has not played since the EFL Cup defeat to Liverpool on October 25.

“I am not a doctor but we are a bit worried about his situation,” Pochettino said. “His evolution is not how we expect. We need to give him more time to recover. It is a hip problem but I cannot say when (he will be back).”

Moussa Sissoko, meanwhile, has responded positively after Pochettino admitted earlier this week the Frenchman had not lived up to expectations since joining the club in a deal worth £30million in the summer.

“His answer was good in the week, I am happy with the answer from him,” Pochettino said. “He is training very hard, then it’s up to me to decide whether he is involved or not.”

Ben Davies remains sidelined with an ankle injury but Danny Rose is available again after serving a one-match suspension.
