Ahead of the SEA Games Vietnam 2021, the Committee Ensures Implementing a Strict Bubble System

The 2021 SEA Games will be held in Vietnam in May 2022. For the smooth running of the biggest sporting event in Southeast Asia, the organizing committee for the 2021 SEA Games (VISCGOC) implemented a bubble system and strict health protocols during the event.

Secretary General of the Indonesian Olympic Committee (NOC Indonesia), Ferry Kono, said that his party had received the news. He said the bubble system would be divided into six clusters in Vietnam.

As before, this system will regulate tournament participants to comply with health protocols (prokes). Ferry explained that later VISGOC would also periodically apply antigen swabs for the participants and everyone involved.

The athlete bubble system is divided by sport, country, and gender. One hotel will be occupied by the same sport, later the floors for male and female athletes will also be separated, “explained Ferry in a press statement, Thursday (27/1/2022).

“The committee will also carry out periodic antigen swab tests every three days as an early detection step and provide medical facilities and personnel in each hotel,” he continued.

However, Ferry is still waiting for clarity from the committee regarding several things. One of them is the distance between clusters which is quite far from the capital, Hanoi. For information, the five clusters besides Hanoi are Hai Phong, Bac Ninh, Hai Duong, Quang Ninh, and Ha Nam.

“The (five) cities are very far from Hanoi, about 30 km - 150 km. We ask for this to be confirmed in the THB (technical handbook) which will be revised and hope it can be sent to each NOC soon, so that we know how prepared the committee is regarding transportation, whether dedicated to NOC, CdM, or athletes,” he said.

Furthermore, Ferry is also still questioning several technical matters in the field. An example is the readiness of the medical room and doctors for the 2022 SEA Games Vietnam.

“We had asked several questions regarding the limits of naturalized players for basketball. Then regarding the latest THB of the Asian Table Tennis Federation, the readiness of the organizing committee to prepare a medical headquarters and room for the team of doctors,” he added.

For your information, the 2021 SEA Games which will be held in Vietnam will be held from 12 to 23 May 2022. The biggest sporting event in Southeast Asia can be an opportunity for Indonesia to show off in various sports.
