So i'm trying to get my music to sound a little better for my next cd. Do you guys have any suggestions for what would make it sound more professional? Let me go into detail here…

I have Mixcraft and a basic computer mic from radio shack. Obviously, i need to step it up. I cant really spend too much since im saving up for school, but if you guys have any ideas of how to get a good sound for a pretty cheap price, let me know. Any suggesstions on what kind of mic to buy would help as well.

Thanks

K… this is my setup esentially…

you will need a few things… and after this its only about how well you know your program you use…

Your Shoping List:

  • M-Audio Fast-Track USB Interface (approx. $100)
  • Shure SM58 Vocal Microphone (approx. $100)
  • 15 ft. XLR Microphone Cable (approx. $20)
  • Vocal Mic Stand (approx. $15-$20)
  • Pop Filter (approx. $15)

thats assuming you have speakers for Mixing, and a set of Headphones

I'm starting to agree… bout to sell my personal Mbox setup… it's brand new… I'm more in to Audition 3 … but I've been a CEP fan for a long time now…

Yes… and no… Adobe bought the rights to CEP from Syntrillium (I used to use this back then before they aquired it)… Cool Edit Pro is a lot more basic than Audition 3, which I use and was referring to….

Pssh, I think ProTools is overrated. I use Audition and I've actually heard a lot of people who use CEP/Audition make s**t that sounds WAY better than a lot of dudes who use ProTools. It's all in what you know how to work. ProTools isn't going to automatically turn your quality to gold. Neither will any other program for that matter.
