I remember back in the day that's was all cats did, freestyle. I personally prefer a mind-blowing freestyle, compared to that of a mind-blowing written. Like Roz, I've met some great freestylers in person. When you're actually face to face n this cat's going off on some heavy ish: witty lines, creative metaphors, structure of his flow rides well, with/or without a beat, n the emotions just paint it like a picture, it's sublime. It makes you remember how much mind-power it truely takes to make hip-hop music.

But, now-a-days freestyling its all pre-written. That or they go in the studio, claim its a freestyle n the 16 they had spit.. ends up on the album release 2 weeks later..

No disrespect but pretty stupid comment

think about it…ask a freestyler to sit down and write a song…the 1st thing theyre going to say is…I can do this off the top…ask a writer to freestyle…1st thing hes going to say is I dont freestyle..gimme a pen and paper…when u take a MC out their comfort zone its hard for them to do certain things…when u realize that ur good at one and not the otha…u drop the one your not good at…

agreed. I'm a writer, I can't freestyle for SHIT… I tried even just gettin words out that don't even rhyme…can't do it.

I can't freestyle but I consider myself a pretty good writer.

i usually can't freestyle when i try to flow on a mic or in a battle but ive only done that twice but i can usually think up some in my head. Though id much rather write.  Seems like most freestyles today were written at some point in time.  Ive heard a few battles were it was supposed to be freestyles but u know they just memorized those lines they wrote some time before.

imo, both freestyling and writing require skill, no doubt, but i think freestylin requires a helluva lot of sheer talent.

if yu think bout it, freestyling is pretty much the same as writing, except u have to come up with it all on the spot, no thinkin before hand, no “oh tht line was ill i gotta save dat!”, juss pure spitting.

juss imo.

me, personally, i consider myself at the least a decent writer, and i have been workin on my freestylin.  i used to not be able to go for s**t, but now i can go off the top for at least eight.

Decent writers have the ability to express their inner feelings and show what they mean more substantially than freestylers can.

Decent freestylers have the ability to express their open-mindedness and show that they have the gift of thinking WAY outside the box.

And those with both abailities and are.. decent or pretty good at them, have a lot of potential.

freestyles and written raps are equel. if you think about it. a freestler can make raps of the top of there head which makes writing easier. and writters can sit and ponder up amazing lyrics which make a freestyle flow. so bacily if your a writter its not hard to be a freestyler and if your a freestyler it shouldnt be hard to write.

ppp peace
