Alright so i usually use my friends computer to record, cuz he helps me with some mastering, but lately i've been wanting to use my own. But, everytime i record, there's this fuzzy noise in the background of all the tracks. I use Mixcraft, and i just recently got Sony Acid, an they both do it. I use a pretty cheap mic, but if it works on other computers, i dont see why it wouldnt work here. It's probably something with my sound card, but how do i fix it? Any suggesstions?

It could be a number of things:

- The fan from your computer

- If you have a fan turned on in your room that could be making the noise.

- Air conditioners actually cause that sometimes.

- It could be your distance from the microphone, or it could be the microphone itself. Try recording somewhere else with it to see if the noise still occurs.

- Sound Card issues, but that's rare.

- It could be the echo from your room.

Best way to fix it is to mix your vocals and focus on reducing background noise. Cool Edit lets you do this, I'm not sure about Acid or Mixcraft. A good mixing software is WAVES, it lets you eliminate all kinds of unwanted noises. Just look for a download. Also, try getting Cool Edit. I've tried Acid before and didn't like it that much. Hope this helps man.

dizzy c - well when i record, i usually end up getting the sound out, so i really have nothing to show you, but it bothers me because i have to really play with the vocals and the beat to make the fuzzy sound non existent.

evidentz - thanks for the advice. Im kinda screwed if its the air conditioner haha. but i guess the fan on the computer could be doin it. im actually thinkin about gettin a new mic anyways, so i'll see if theres any change after that.

That's probably just the bourbon.

Mecca 989:

Or it could be not having a preamp, or something similar. I have a shureSM58, and before I got a pre-amp, I had the wierd fuzzy sound to. Unfortunately to get a song that sounds decent you gotta spend some money, karaoke mics won't cut it forever.

Run a noise reduction on your vocals. I'm pretty sure the DAW you're using has some sort of noise reduction effect. You'd have to grab a sample first so record a couple seconds on the mic just sitting there so it can pick up whatever background noise is in the room and use that during processing.
