While I love text battles I think it is obvious that they are getting to be a little ridiculous with the voting…or lack there of.
I think this is mainly because of the breakdowns that are “required” to be given for an “official” vote to count.
I think battles would go by much quicker if a simple vote with a simple reasoning behind the vote was given and let the breakdown become an optional thing.
For example,

I think ParallelRhymes won because his punchlines hit harder

This way feedback is still provided and I honestly think with a decent reasoning the feedback can be more useful in bettering oneself because the number breakdown is usually skewed.

The reason for the breakdown is so you can see exactly how each battler is scored on the scale. Lets say for example you jumped in a battle with Spadez, did much better than him, and a friend of his simply comes on the site and says “I think spadez did better cuz his punches were good”

How do you argue that? We’d have to count the vote, even if you easily beat him.

If he broke down the score and you can see he cheated you, or the numbers dont make sense, we can look into it and even DQ the vote.

We have thought about the ‘quicker’ method, for faster votes/battles. But do you think its worth the risk?

Precisely what KC said.

The breakdown is implemented for a reason, to avoid ‘friend-voting’ and reduce cheating.

It’s too bad we don’t have a rating system, like a 5 star click thingy. Hmm…maybe I can get some of my web development homies to help you folks out.
EDIT:
Actually it would be pretty easy to build a simple HTML rating system, but mods would have to check the output (.csv, Excel file) to see who won. I might even be able to pre-build a .CSV that calculated the winner and stuff. I dunno. I think we’d have a problem with vote-flooding, though, as I don’t know how to limit how many times somoene can submit a form…

I know what PR is getting at, but I have to agree with KC.

We put effort into WRITING the damn battles, is it too much to ask for a little effort when it comes to voting?

However, if a “form”, such as what Josh suggested, could be implemented, then this would make voting a HELL of a lot easier.

yeah i agree with what KC said.i actually was bitching about the Breakdowns in past battles because people would just go and say who won and not tell how they won.the Breakdown is necessary because it actually shows where you and your opponent did better and where you need to improve on.not a lot of votes now-a-days use the breakdown and i always thought that was bs.the breakdown should be manditory for everyone.

I spoke with one of my buddies at work, and he said it wouldn’t be too hard to make up a battle voting thing. I’d even volunteer to maintain it, since Ill be designing it. I”ll get back to you guys when I have something to show.

Some people do like to vote in 0.5s too, so it might be an idea to implement “half-stars” if ya know what I mean.
