I've been performing like crazy lately
Opening for V Factory - Friday
Opening for Frankie J - Saturday
Opening for Mike Jones - July 17
Here's the thing. Getting paying gigs is easy if you know the right people. Let the word go out that you're interested in performing, and if you've got the sound that booking agents want, as well as the drive and fanbase pull, they will at least highly consider you, if not book you. Never beg for shows… rather convince agents that you're good enough for them to hire you. Let them know that you WILL (not try, attempt, or you THINK you will… you WILL) sell a ton of tickets, and get PEOPLE TO THE SHOW! Once this happens, you'll be surprised how many shows you start to line up

Thanks Pyro, and everyone else to.
I mainly just wanted to know what people did to get their first show, or which way they thought would be the best.
I figure that I'll make a demo tape and get my name out around town, and then do some simple shows. And if that all goes well enough then, buy some beats and then start pulling for some cash gigs. I know alot of it is just getting your name out there, and finding people to help hand out c.d's and flyers.

I was lucky enough to know the guy who booked me for my first real show before he even started booking it. He took a shot on me and I worked my hardest to impress. Once that happened, we kept working together and networking together, not just for his shows, but with other booking agents, and he's been the main reason for most of my shows to this date.
Tip: just network as much as you can. Know who's booking shows, when their shows are, and give them your demos if you're interested in working with them. WHO you know is most of the game, afterall.

Well to start off selling tickets you gotta hang outside of shows(or other places) and sell your c.d. Not necessarilly for money, but sell them on the idea. If you like so-and-so then you'll love my c.d. Even if you try your hardest to sound distinct you still have to play on something that people are familiar with.
Try telling people that your the most unique singer/rapper coming up, and they will still probably ask who you sound like.
