Growing up in San Diego, we're overshadowed by other cities and there strong history of music and their own HipHop culture. We're not usually known for having musical acts in a genre other than rock to blow. Although we do have dudes like Mitchy Slick, Jayo Felony, Skeeza Skin has been in the Source's Unsigned Hype columns. Babygrande Records' own Randum Luck came out with their debut album this past summer. We got Auditory bangin s**t out like he was cut from the same cloth as Dr. Dre! But we've never had REAL heads. I'm 23 now, been studying HipHop since I was like 8; which was the first time I heard Wu. I was intrigued and just kept listening. Shit was fresh to me at such a young age. I claimed my name like 5 years ago. At the time, and still to this date, I know more about HipHop culture than anyone I have ever met in my city. More than my friends, relatives, acquaintances, strangers. I come off cocky anytime I am in a convo about HipHop. It's intentional. I AM HipHop! Ya'll tell me who was the first one to say that … you can't. My knowledge dates back to the f**kin 60s music … before HipHop was a term. This s**t runs through my veins 24/7. And I teach the culture to kids in my neighborhood … therefore, I contribute to the culture. I keep it alive. Thus I am LifeSpan of HipHop.
