When it comes to this topic it depends who you are and how you grew up alot of the times also…  I mean to me it seems to be like this::::

The type of people who think rappers like Pac are over rated //// Those who never lived the street life, and im not speaking about being broke, im talking about real street s**t, if you dont know what real street s**t is then you probably think Pac is over rated.

People who think the Kanye West type are over rated //// its usually the dudes that tend to get bullied and s**t who like kanye.  Real niggas (black, white, afgahn, chinese or even green ppl) dont like these type of dude, not all real niggas but most dont like this s**t.  Gangster rappers dont like this s**t.   I DONT LIKE THIS SHIT,

lol first off, the italicized words made me lmao..

I agree with the Pac thing. Like I said in another post, Hip-Hop is about relating…if you can't understand where the said rapper is coming from, then you probably won't bump them, simple as that. But see here's the thing: I don't try to relate to rappers. Matter of fact, I don't try to relate to ANY music I listen to…they're not me! lol. Now, if a rapper/singer/band comes out talking about going to Desert Oasis High School, and trying to beat cheeks with their substitute teacher, THEN I can relate Laugh So “not living the street life” has nothing to do with the reason why I feel Pac is overrated…truth be told, I've heard Pac's subject matter(the BASIS, not the EXACT subject matter, just the basis of it) on many different cds, inside many different songs, and from many different voices, before AND after he came out, so right there the “realness” of what he's saying doesn't hit me as hard as I'm sure it hit/hits you and some others. Also, Pac just didn't have it lyrically, and when I say “lyrically” I mean quadrasyllabic rhymes, 4 bar rule etc. etc. the list goes on, which is why I think he's overrated. But the REAL REASON why I feel he's overrated, is because people are INFATUATED with him! I swear to you, 30 years from now, he'll STILL be topping G.O.A.T. lists, even though by then, too many rappers will have more talent than him, because I kinda look at lyricism like technology itself: it gets better as it goes on…

Sorry, but when I check rappers out, besides what I noted above, I look for originality/creativity/complexity in both style and song concepts, so if you're rapping about social issues that I can find on ten+ other cds…sorry…you're not getting my money and you're getting my iPod space…granted, I spent money on Pacs albums because of everyone raving and ranting about him being the “realest yet” and boy was I disappointed…I still sang along to Dear Mama and whatnot, but for the most part, imo, it wasn't what everyone made it out to be…because he's overrated!

Overrated - Lil' Wayne, and most mainstream rappers today, because you can never tell for sure if they have ghost writers like Dr.Dre, P.Diddy, ect. It's pretty sad if they do because a lot of thier lyrics are elementary… and most of the beats are the same… most of mainstream rap is in a bad place right now…

Underrated - Big Pun, Canibus, Ill Bill, Viruoso, Copywrite, Apathy… could name more but thats a good list… to me the east coast holds it down lyrically, and with the grit that hip-hop needs today… I just don't see how people connect with rappers talkin' about thier millions or partying… when a lot of people are struggling…
