You’ve never heard of Focusrite?! Oh well they honestly make some amazing stuff, but they have some real garbage at the low end. All their platinum line is trash.. when I first look at what you were planning on getting, I thought they made a smaller scarlet, and it seems you found that one. When I bought a interface once presonus and focusrite had just came out with new interfaces, and I went with the audiobox by presonus. So I have nothing I can really say about the scarlet. The audiobox was def an improvement over my m audio and I using the profire 610 at the time, which should have been a lot better sounding for the price. Although the sound was better with the audiobox, it still wasn’t enough to leave me satisfied..
One thing, I wouldn’t worry too much about the preamps, because at some point you should upgrade to a stand alone preamp, will be night and day difference from interface pres. The most important thing is the conversion, latency, and driver stability. Let me do a quick search cause I haven’t looked at them in a while and if you can spend more there maybe something better.

focusrite started as a high end only type of company, making custom interfaces for big artists. they just recently started pushing more towards low end home based equipment.
the firwire versions of focusrite interfaces have been tested by mixcraft staff and work correctly, tho they havent tested the usb version i can’t really see there being a problem.
im headed down to guitar center today to pick up an interface so i’m limited to what they have there, im upgrading all my equipment come tax season this is just to get me by til then.
thx for the help tho john, any interface you would recomend for under $500?

which audiobox did you get? the most exspensive i can find is $500 so that’s definitely an option.
this all gets kind of confusing cuz im willing to spend the extra money for lower latency and better quality but it seems like the price is more reflective of the amount of in’s and outs then anything.

Or

Either one of those. There’s an Audiobox for $149 too, which is actually the one I had, but this new one for $50 more gives you 24 bit 96k recording. Although the Focusrite one does too for $50 less at the $149 price.
Switching to 24 bit 96k will be a big step on its own. Remember to switch it to that in your recording software, lol. Cause it’ll probably be set up for 16 bit 44.1k when you first plug it in. I really don’t think you can go wrong with either, reviews seem similar. I personally have experience with the audiobox, so would probably lean that way, but then again I do like the $50 savings if you’re going to upgrade later. That would probably force me to try the scarlet, lol.
I would stick to the end for now, and switch to apple when you get your money.. personally. You just can’t beat the Apogee One. I bought it for $249 but I think they went up since then. But I bought that and an iPad mini for $319 or whatever they are, and have never since worried about the interface or latency issues or anything like that. All I think about now is mics and preamps haha.
Good luck to you bro, guitar center should carry them both

Yea man, forget the higher priced scarletts and audioboxes, it’s just more ins and outs. The converters and preamps are the same. Only nice thing about hip hop and gear buying is we only need one in and out, lol. Hate to be a band going through this s**t needing a ton of plugs, haha they must hate it.

Just so you know, I looked it up and Apogee One is $349 now, iPad mini $329 and you need a powered usb hub maybe $25 you’re basically around $700 there and seriously was the best switch I made. The app I use for recording is multitrack daw and was like maybe $20 but WaveMachine makes an app called Auria for $49 that I’m seriously debating, take a look at it.. looks very professional.
Honestly you’re so close to having a MUCH better set up if you save another $200 and make the switch to Apple now.
Best decision I made, and I was hell bent on staying PC.. I don’t like Apple at all, it was reviews on the Apogee that got me over to them. YouTube the Apogee One.. you’ll see

Focusrite is awesome. I’ve heard great things from people who use both interfaces from the Scarlett and Saffire series. I use a Scarlett 2i2 which retails for $150 or so. 18i20 might be unnecessary for what you need.

thx em i knew you where the dude to ask. i do plan on switching to apple come tax season but i always thought the apogee went for around $1000 so i figured i’d stick with the new interace til then.
since tax season is so close i think im gonna try the scarlet or audio box out of curiosity. plus that will leave me with money to buy new headphones and monitors to mix with.
you can’t ever leave shadowville dude you have mad insight into this kind of stuff, really saved the day homie thx.
