“you're so talented, you can go so far!”

“you need to work as hard as you can”

“we signed you up at a basketball camp in Kelowna and Ottawa.”

“we're counting on you for retirement”

“well we already signed you up, so you're going anyway.”

“hey Alex, I've heard many things about your talent in basketball, soccer and track. I've talked to your parents and they said you'd be interested in doing this/that.”

I'm sick and tired of this s**t.

I can't wait till a creer-ending injury.

Too much pressure. Too much disappoint and resentment would come from too many people if I stopped.

Or just shut up

your pressures of the youth are nothing compared to what most people face

i.e. gangs, drugs, guns, threats, getting food, surviving on a day to day basis

plus a lot more. Point is, suck it up and deal with it.

Pressures of the youth? Forreal?

How about pressures of being a 40 year old man most recently losing his job thanks to this terrible economy. Or finding out you have been diagnosed with a disease which cannot be cured.

chill out.

lol…if you don't enjoy playing sports, just tell your parents you have other interests you'd like to pursue, and then refuse to conform to their expectations. they can't make you do anything. they may resist at first, but if you rebel with enough conviction, they will eventually be forced to let you do your own thing. if they threaten to throw you out, or anything like that, call the bluff. leave. go to a friend's house and don't let them know where you are. they'll come around, trust me. when I was your age my parents couldn't tell me s**t…some see it as disrespectful, ungrateful, dishonorable. forget that. you only have one life to live. you weren't born into bondage. there is no inherent duty to mother and father. the beauty of it–when you do strike out independent of your parents, and taste life in all its glorious liberty–you'll end up feeling truly grateful for your parents when maturity sets in. parents sometimes unknowingly hold their children back and stunt healthy development. in my opinion, that only leads to resentment. so let them know how you feel. tell them you're afraid you're really going to resent them someday if they keep smothering you with unwanted pressure. above all, take charge of your life and stop blaming your parents, because the only thing in your way is, to be blunt, your own fear.

^^^Seriously…

At any rate…As far obeying what your parents say…The way I see it is…They(especially your mother) had the option to abort you and stop you from having these “pressures” your experiencing, and other major things, but instead, they decided to give birth to you, feed you, cloth you, shelter you, and guide you as best as they can throughout your trials & tribulations. So, for 18 years, or however long it takes for you to begin the long walk on your own path, why not respect them by following their “rules” and wishes?

Unhappiness calls for drastic measures. The greatest wisdom consists in enjoying the present and making this enjoyment the goal of life, because the present is all that is real and everything else merely imaginary. Therefore, if the wishes of the parents aren't conducive to his happiness, then those wishes must be abandoned. In reality, his happiness is all the parents should require. Any self-serving rules/goals a parent may have for his/her child are unwise, and thus unworthy of following.
