Cristiano Ronaldo’s future remains unclear. The Portuguese could not force a move away from Manchester United in the summer, after asking several times to leave the English team.

However, he could have a way to leave the Red Devils, after a rather bad start to the season for the Portuguese. The new candidate that would bid for his signature would be a totally unexpected team: Turkish side Galatasaray.

According to reports from Turkey, the Istanbul side would be very interested in signing the Portuguese star in the next winter transfer window. The Turkish team wants to tempt Ronaldo with a lucrative offer, although it does not seem certain that the Portuguese has any intention of leaving for Galatasaray.

First of all, because they do not play in the Champions League, something that Cristiano wants to do for sure. In addition, a move to Turkey would mean moving away from the top leagues in Europe.

Galatasaray are in fourth place in the Turkish SuperLig. In the summer they have made strong moves to try to get back to an important position in Europe with the signings of Mauro Icardi, Lucas Torreira and Juan Mata.

Cristiano Ronaldo will reportedly once again seek a departure from Manchester United during the January transfer window if he remains out of the Red Devils’ starting XI.

ESPN’s Rob Dawson reported Tuesday that Ronaldo, who unsuccessfully tried to secure a move to a Champions League club over the summer, is “desperate to make the most of his last years at the top” after falling behind Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial at United.

Questions were raised about how Ronaldo would respond after being unable to leave Old Trafford ahead of the 2022-23 season, but sources told Dawson the superstar’s “attitude to training and games has been exemplary” early in the term.

Yet, it’s far from an ideal situation for the 37-year-old forward to spend most of his time on the United bench at this latter stage of his storied career.

Only one of Ronaldo’s six Premier League appearances this season was a start, and that came back on Aug. 13 against Brentford in a humiliating 4-0 loss for the team. His only goal of the club campaign came in the Europa League against Sheriff Tiraspol in a 2-0 win on Sept. 15.

So, while it’s not a surprise he’d prefer a move to a side where he’d be more involved, United may once again hold firm in its desire to keep him as depth.

Manager Erik ten Hag is reportedly “reluctant to let him leave in January” because the club isn’t expected to have transfer funds to sign a replacement until next summer.

The amount of interest in Ronaldo come January will likely depend heavily on his performance with Portugal at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, where he’ll take on a far more important role than he’s played for United as of late.

Last month, the Seleção captain said he planned to continue playing international football for the foreseeable future.

It’s a rumor, or pipe dream, that has gone on for years: the thought of Cristiano Ronaldo, arguably the biggest star in soccer’s history, finishing his career in Major League Soccer.

Ronaldo, and his longtime competitor Lionel Messi, have long been linked with a move to the U.S. For them, it would present one last stop of their career, and a chance to make boatloads of money while simultaneously raising their profile in the United States. It would also present them with the chance to join a list of trailblazers that include names like Pele and David Beckham.

But, at least thus far, Ronaldo has always been resistant. The Portuguese star has always stated his intentions of playing at the highest level, namely Europe, for as long as he possibly can. Ronaldo is obsessed with furthering his on-field legacy, and the best way for him to do that would be to continue to pour in goals while lifting more trophies.

However, as we head towards the 2022 World Cup, Ronaldo’s world is changing drastically. He’s suddenly something of an afterthought at Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United, despite scoring 24 goals in all competitions last season. He appears to be on his way out of Old Trafford, with his highly-publicized homecoming looking set to end with a whimper.

Should he leave, he’ll have no shortage of suitors, one of which will be MLS, and it is more than likely that he continues on in European soccer. But is it possible he comes to MLS and, if it is, which clubs could he end up at?

The 37-year-old’s desire to continue playing Champions League football is thought to be the driving force behind his decision to inform the Red Devils that he is keen to seek pastures new.

Man United have allegedly reiterated that the Portugal international will not be leaving, with the attacker still having another 12 months left to run on his contract at the club.
