My top 5 are as follows:
1.Rakim
2.Canibus
3.Eminem
4.Tech
5.Big Pun
And to the guy that studies hip-Hop, lmao, if you studied hip-hop you would have Rakim on the list and you wouldn't have lil wayne. Also, even though nobody likes him but when Canibus and LL battled, LL put a crazy response in the Can-I-Bus diss and that gave him respect, even though I don't like him at all.
Wow, calm down, not everybody feels compelled to go on Limewire and download old rappers to make themselves feel like they know more about hip-hop…
He was posting today's, as in this era, most lyrical emcees.

4. T.I.
5. Ludacris
That's the top 5 best lyricists in my opinion. Tech n9ne has by far the best vocabulary out of anyone in the rap game, and his says shit that makes sense and doesn't bounce from topic to topic in his rhymes.
In a battle, Em would beat Tech, not gonna lie, but as far as lyricism.. Tech takes the cake.
This is just my opinion for lyricism:
1: Eminem
2: Chamillionaire
3: T.I.
4: Ludacris
5: Classified (he's Canadian so you probably haven't heard of him but look him up, he's genious)

Rakim is definitely a nice rapper, and I'm not big on old rappers like 2Pac and Biggie. Listen to his track on the 8 Mile Soundtrack called R.A.K.I.M, I like more of his solo stuff than his work with Eric B.

Lupe Fiasco sucks.
He's not “ahead of the game” he just sucks at making music. Point. Blank. I listen to a Zinn song before I listen to a Lupe song.

hahaha, this is a cute lil argument you guys have goin on, but imma go ahead and lay down the facts cuz i study hip-hop artists and produce music for a livin. Most of the rap/hip-hop artists today are extemely talented lyrically, but im gonna have to say, according not only to what i've heard myself, but according to other poeples opinions and industry statistics, that the following are the six most lyrical rapper alive
1. Eminem
2. Tech N9ne
3. Lupe Fiasco
4. Cannibus
5. Ludacris
6. Lil Wayne (I know, I know, as much as I hate to put him on the list, it's the straight truth)
I know its a fine line between em and tech, but there is one major point that distinguishes the two artists and thats word use. Tech, in almost every verse he throws down, ceases to amaze me with his lyrics and flow, but Em is able to do the same thing, but with one major difference. . . he doesnt say “Nigga”. A lot of people think “Nigga” is controversial in music, i'd have to say that all depends on who's listening, but it is pure truth that the word helps dramatically when flowin or writin cuz it's universal and can be used to link bars easily make flow sound better. So, If Tech could pull a Chamillionare and drop an entire album w/o sayin “Nigga” once on his cd, i'd probably set him equal to Em.
Also, for those of you who haven't seen or heard Em at the 1997 Rap Olympics, check it out here, I think it will definately change ur perspective on Em in freestyle battles.
Well, I think i've summed up my point pretty well, but if anyone feels any different, speak up, i'm always happy to hear other opinions!
